How I work

I picked up a camera as a Peace Corps volunteer in Central America in 2010 and have been documenting people ever since. What I am after has not really changed: the in-between moments, the ones nobody thinks to arrange.

So I work quietly. I get to know you and the people you love, give simple direction only where it helps, and then mostly stay out of the way. That calm is the whole method — it is what lets a room forget the camera is there and gives you back genuine laughter, happy tears and long hugs instead of poses.

Six hundred weddings have taught me what actually matters on the day, and I will say so: I will push for a timeline that lets you enjoy your own celebration, even where that means ignoring tradition. Of the 500-odd galleries I have delivered, 72 percent of the images couples marked as favourites had family and friends in them. That is the part worth protecting.

I grew up in Iowa and came to Oregon for the mountains. Outside of weddings you will find me on a bike or on skis, usually with my family somewhere nearby.
